Why Help?
We Need Your Help To Grow
The Capital Area Food Bank currently provides over 20 million pounds of food a year to more than 700 partner agencies, feeding 383,000 people.
But the need in this region is increasing dramatically, and our current facility lacks the space and technology needed to meet it.
By taking action to help us grow the food bank's capacity, you can have a measurable impact.
Take a look at what it means to the community for each improvement we make to the food bank:
MORE SPACE, MORE FOOD
Our new warehouse space will be as large as two football fields, twice the size of our current space.
This means we can accept and distribute twice as much food - 40 million pounds- to our neighbors.
Increased refrigerator and freezer capacity means more broccoli, carrots, milk and other fresh items will be available for hungry families.
GREEN FEATURES SAVE MONEY
Features and fixtures like low-flow faucets, motion sensor lights, and storm-water collection mean over $70,000 in energy cost savings per year.
These saving leave us with more resources to help the community!
BETTER RESOURCES, BETTER SERVICE
Many of our partner agencies are very small nonprofit groups with no resources available to develop their own capacities to serve clients.
Our new Technology and Resource center will house stations where agencies can place online food orders and apply for grants via the web.
MORE STAFF, EASIER TO GET FOOD
With room to grow our base of volunteers (currently at 11,000 annually), we can provide them with special stations for sorting food.
They can place rice, beans and other nutritious bulk items into small containers for easy client access.

LARGER SPACE, KIDS AND SENIORS EAT BETTER
With new space for classrooms, along with commercial and teaching kitchens:
The Kids Cafe program will serve nutritious hot meals and a greater variety of after-school snacks.
More seniors will receive much needed food through the Brown Bag program.
Take the time to get involved today. Just a few minutes of your time will have a deep impact on our neighbors and community.
