People Affected by Hunger
People Affected by Hunger
People affected by hunger are often not who you might expect them to be. Hunger is not only a problem of the homeless (a common misconception). It affects working families, the elderly, and homeowners.
Children:
In the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area, 1 in 5 children is at risk of or experiencing hunger.
Seniors:
Eight (8) percent of CAFB clients are elderly; the food bank’s Brown Bag program provides approximately 2000 senior citizens with monthly supplemental bags of food to meet their nutritional needs.
Working Adults:
Individuals working tirelessly every day and struggling to pay their mortgages are now running out of money to buy groceries.
Homeowners:
Our clients include families from all walks of life, not only the homeless. In fact, only 12% of the food bank’s clients are homeless, while 23% own their own home.
